Great Ormond Street Hospital

We carried out a series of three separate contracts for the Great Ormond Street Childrens’ Hospital, including the Day Centre Ward, Transitional Care Unit and Level 8, Wards A, B, & E.

The Day Centre Ward was completely refurbished and refitted, with a new Reception Area created and a range of special Day Centre rooms for disabled children built.

A ‘seafaring’ theme was designed for incorporation throughout the new areas. This used specialist joinery and flooring and the decorations were complemented by specially commissioned murals on columns and walls.

All of the rooms in the Transitional Care Unit were also completely refurbished to create individual ‘pods’ which enabled parents to stay with their children overnight. Beech was used for the glazed screens, doors and rails, while the connecting corridors and main Ward Room carried a colourful ‘river’ theme. The kitchens, washrooms, bathrooms, toilets and store rooms were also completely refurbished to match.

Our third contract for the Great Ormond Street Hospital was Level 8, Wards A, B & E. Further parent and child ‘pods’ were created by extending out into the balcony area and formed the main part of a full refurbishment to wards A & B.

Ward E was developed as new office spaces, with special security and safety features fitted throughout.

All work was carried out in accordance with the strict regulations necessary to protect this sensitive environment and ensure adjoining wards remained operational.
